Fashion Law: Photographer Terry Richardson vs Change.Org Petition Calls For Industry Insiders To Stop Hiring Him
Fashion’s beloved provocative photographer, infamous for his racy and tantalizing shoots is under siege once again. Reflecting issues upon his conduct of behavior conclusively. As FashionBoss guides you into the Change.Org Petition made upon the cameraman – please read our Managing Editor’s take on the Terry Richardson affair.
Alice Ehrenfried of Southampton, UK, launched a petition on Change.org demanding all major brands and magazines to quit condoning Richard’s crude work ethics. The petition is titled “Vogue, H&M, Mango, Supreme, & all other brands: Stop using alleged sex offender Terry Richardson as your photographer”. It currently boasts 17,000+ signatures, with a goal of 50,000. Between the scandalous MTV performance this past August and her full-fledged, yet tastefully acclaimed nudity, in Terry Richardson’s directed music video – Miley Cyrus is just another puppeteer in his series of feats. With “Wrecking Ball’s” adequate lyrics, you would assume the controversy would dimmer upon Cyrus, yet this collaboration set another domino effect within the Richardson scandal diaries. Who is this Terry Richardson character?
There seems to be a reoccurring theme with this man. Not only is he held accountable for numerous accounts of exploitation towards under aged females and inappropriately touching models, the “lambs” within the fashion world seem to consciously support his crusade. In spite of all this media frenzy, not all women are rallying behind Ehrenfried. On October 14th, Everyday Feminism, promoted the petition via Facebook setting off a series of retorts, in defense and dissent. Here is one quote below of a responder to the thread: “The presumption of innocence obviously doesn’t just apply to fashion, and being the creepy uncle of fashion photography isn’t the same as being a convicted sex offender.”
Megastar, Rihanna shot by Terry Richardson
Now, it’s actually been months since the initial launch of the petition against Terry Richardson. Evidently, the self-proclaimed pervert doesn’t seem one bit intimidated in all honesty. Just type ‘Terry Richardson scandal’ into Google and his discreditable behavior dates back into ’09. Though the obvious question still has not been answered. Will Richardson be out of work if the petition, in reality, hits its goal of 50,000 signatures or even before then?
Thus far, the gym company, Equinox has cut its ties with the photographer. Richardson had taken campaign photos for the company over the past three seasons. Equinox is now declaring an image revamp for the brand. H&M has declared their severed ties with Richardson as well, through Twitter. Harper’s Bazaar, known to hire Richardson for their front cover imagery – hired Alexi Lubomirski, this past issue featuring Kate Hudson.
