Fashion News: Oscar de la Renta Titles Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia as Newest Creative Directors
The design duo behind Monse, Oscar De La Renta alums Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia have just graduated. Deemed as the latest creative directors for the eponymous fashion house. The pair left in 2015 to launch Monse for its Spring/Summer 2016 season, during which they dressed the likes of Amal Clooney, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jessica Pare, and Selena Gomez just to name a few.
“We are beyond thrilled to go back to the house where we learned the fundamentals of fashion from Oscar and the business of fashion from Alex. Having further learned so much this past year with Monse, we will apply all of those lessons to expand the vision that this amazing house has already established,” Kim and Garcia said in a statement.
In a short amount of time, the duo was able to establish Monse as a label. Barely a year old Monse pulled in Mad Men actress, Jessica Pare who landed spots on Vogue’s and WWD’s best dressed lists for the Emmys. The pair has even consulted for Carolina Herrera, where Kim was named senior vice president of design and Garcia stood as a consultant.
Oscar de la Renta CEO Alex Bolen commented: “For many years, Laura and Fernando worked here directing our design teams. Oscar respected their talent, and their work with him brought tremendous critical acclaim and success to the company. In a short period of time, Laura and Fernando have established Monse as a brand with a distinct, original point of view. Our plan is to help Monse fulfil its potential by growing quickly and profitably utilising our operating, financial and logistic systems. We look forward to Laura and Fernando once again bringing their extraordinary design skills to Oscar de la Renta.”
For many years, Oscar admired Kim and Garcia’s direction and point of view within the industry. Following as Peter Copping’s successors, the duo’s homecoming collection will launch come Fall/Winter 2017. The pair will oversee all aspects of the business and logistics, including accessories, childrenswear, and bridal. In addition, Oscar de la Renta and Monse “will enter into a broad strategic partnership in which Oscar de la Renta will provide operational and logistical support to Monse.”
