FASHION WEEK: NOLCHA’S INDEPENDENT DESIGNERS SHINE
Those that were able to brave the bitter cold temperature and harsh winds on February 15th were lucky enough to take part in Nolcha Fashion Week at Pier 59 Studios – a leading award winning event held during NYFW that showcases independent fashion designers and their collections. Among those featured were Katty Xiomara, Prieston, Ann Himsel, Haute Athletics and Danny Nguyen Couture, among others. See below for some of the FashionBoss team’s favorite designers from the show.
True to form, Venezuelan native Katty Xiomara unveiled a collection that was elegant, poetic and reflective of a romantic woman. The full free-flowing skirts and dresses were representative of Xiomara’s fluidity for the large majority of her pieces—think Taylor Swift meets Queen Elizabeth I. Not all was elementary though as Xiomara threw in a few short skirts and shorts, rigid crop tops and blouses and two tone heels, flat boots, and platform booties. The platform booties are definitely a must have.
The blond bombshell Noemi Nagy, aka Prieston, presented her second collection this year at Nolcha. While the collection featured was in short supply (showing only 9 pieces) Nagy certainly did not disappoint. Drawing inspiration from the women and films of Alfred Hitchcock, particularly The Birds, Nagy displayed a beautiful and feminine range of looks that included bright colors, feathered textures alongside leather accents, and geometric patterns.
New York City was the largest stimulus for designer Ann Himsel who’s known for her menswear inspired designs specifically tailored to fit women. Himsel’s collection featured looks that would suit the likes of Cara Delevigne–registered UK-fashionista and party girl. Long dark blazers adorned with leather accents were paired with skinny jeans and combat boots. Particular popular accessories included dark ties, black beanies, and circle-frame sunglasses.
Danny Nguyen Couture collection for Nolcha was nothing short of impressive. Drawing creativeness from Parisian haute couture houses and culture costumes, Nguyen’s collection featured embellished gowns that even Katniss Everdeen would approve of. Creative patterns, sequins and flower embellishments added to a collection of the utmost femininity.
