Fashion Law: Moncler Fights Back Against Counterfeit Web Sites
Following suit of Prada who recently shut down a major counterfeit web site is French-Italian apparel manufacturer Moncler. Back in November, the brand shut down more than 1,800 web sites selling fake products. Most recently Moncler has added an additional 50 websites to that list that were registered in December by three Chinese individuals.
The domain names registered for said web sites were in violation of Moncler’s brand rights and the World Organization for Intellectual property of Geneva ordered the immediate transfer of the domains last month.
The counterfeit web sites used illegal imagery pulled from Moncler’s site in addition to search terms such as “outlet” and “sale” to intrigue customers.
This isn’t the first instance where Moncler has taken direct action against brand impersonators—back in November the brand won a civil case against Chinese counterfeiters and was paid 420,000 euros or $468,000 at current exchange.
