FASHION REPETITION: MAIYET BUTTERFLY HEEL BOOT
Established in 2011, Manhattan-based Maiyet has become a target in copycat fashion. Brain child of Paul Van Zyl and Kristy Caylor, the rookie luxury brand revolves around their philosophy of pioneering artisanal design from global sources like Peru, Mongolia, and Indonesia to name a few. In addition to designing ready-to-wear clothing, Maiyet also constructs accessories like boots and jewelry.
Their business chic attire with sharp minimalistic cuts have become a base for fast fashion retailers to tweak the Maiyet seriousness with some more casual tones: the victim of the duplication is a Maiyet boot.
The Maiyet Butterfly Heel Boots is part of the Winter 2014 campaign originally retailing for $1,095. The supple black leather boot features a stunning two-inch gold tone metal heel. Teen retailer Forever 21’s faux leather cut-out boot features a concealed zipper on the side; a half-inch taller heel; rubber outer; and a gold tone metal heel. Their faux leather version retails at $34.90.
