Vogue contributor, model and fashion mogul, Laura Bailey prepares to launch her Spring 2015 Capsule Collection with British retailer L.K. Bennett. The line is heavily inspired by Bailey’s travel over the past two decades starting with the Almalfi Coast in Italy she tells WWD.
With no prior experience in shoe-making, Bailey relies on L.K.’s input on sampling and processing. Designing, however, is not a new endeavor for Laura as she has previous experience creating her own jewelry brand, Loquet London, and collaborating with Radley to design a leather goods selection. Even with a strong feel for accessories, Bailey feels there will always be lessons to be learned. She thinks heavily on the demographic she is trying to reach since capsule collections are usually reduced to six or seven samples.
The capsule collection is influenced by classic ’60s and ’70s bikini styles that mixes with the vibrancy of Italian beaches in a riviera-chic feel. She aims for pointy toes, zig-zag and bold stripe patterns that celebrate the Mediterranean palette. They are “made to dance on London pavements or Capri sands,” she tells Vogue.
