Fashion Editorial: Mansur Graviel taps Transgender Model Hari Nef
Akin to its minimalist designs, NY-based handbag and shoe label Mansur Gavriel generally likes to keep its campaign ads on the same level as its creation. Staying right on track, Mansur’s most recent ads were filled with simple backdrops in vibrant colors highlighting a beautiful, bold face. Mansur tapped transgender model, actress and activist Hari Nef as the face of its Fall / Winter 2016 campaign. The images photographed by Tanya and Zhenya Posternak is undoubtedly a new direction for the brand, whereas in the past the duo has typically hired fresh, faceless models and exotic animals to exhibit their clean designs.
The collection featured the mini bucket bag in ‘Flamma’ red and sun bag in ‘Cammello’ brown. Nef looked effortless in several looks, with her hair down and fresh-faced. The F/W presentation will showcase in NYFW. Nef has walked for the likes of Italian luxury house Gucci, Hood by Air, and fast fashion label, H&M in the past. Not only is she an activist, she’s also a writer and actress who made a debut in the hit series, “Transparent”. Being the first transgender woman signed onto IMG Worldwide and being covered as a headliner by Vogue has definitely lifted the star’s social levels.
We couldn’t forget the line she gave to Teen Vogue just this past February, “I could literally name as many trans pioneers as there are Presidents of the United States,” she says. “This is a real history, it’s just gone in and out of visibility.”
“It’s rare that I meet people in fashion who are able to think in a way that’s intuitive and sensual, and not based on binaries or mood boards, or selling a product to the widest and lowest common denominator,” she continues. “I don’t want to trash people who I’ve worked with in fashion because I cherish every collaboration, but Alessandro does what he does, and he does it unapologetically, and he happens to do it in a fashion context.”
We’re more than elated to see Hari Nef as Mansur’s latest face and we can’t to see what else she planned in the acting world.by
