Fashion News: If you want to read GQ Ad-Free, You Better Pay Up
Gentlemen’s Quarterly or better known as GQ is an international monthly men’s magazine based in New York City. The popular publication focuses on fashion, style, and culture for men with articles issued in print and circulated within its online community. Unfortunately, to enjoy this publication from here on out, you won’t be able to block out its advertisements. Under Conde Nast’s latest policy, if you want to use ad blocker in your browser to scan the latest trends, you’ll have to pay 50 cents per article to avoid commercial broadcasts.
By utilizing a program called CoinTent, a modern paywall managing micropayments and subscriptions, a user using Ad Blocker will be prompted to create an account to continue viewing GQ’s content or enjoy GQ’s series of endorsements.
Seems like Condé Nast is joining the wave of publishers who see ad blockers as a threat to ad sales. “Ad blocking means lost revenue for publishers as it means fewer eyeballs to sell ads against,” Digiday’s Lucia Moses writes.
