FASHIONBOSS ENCORE: SUNDAY FASHION RECAP
FEATURE: The True Cost of Fur
PETA ‘s Anti-Fur Clout | It is no surprise that Fashionboss CEO, Brittany Rawlings, is an immense supporter of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). PETA is one of the world’s largest animal rights organization with over 3 million members and staff personnel. Exposing cruelty of animal treatment globally, PETA focuses on the most tragic forms of violence, which are present in factory farms, in the clothing trade, in laboratories, and in the entertainment business. Fur remains ubiquitous in designers’ fall/winter collections despite increasing animal-cruelty awareness over the past few decades.
FASHION LAW: Fashion Wounds Are Not Swift to Heal
Dior Dumps Galliano…Again | John Galliano, former creative director at Christian Dior, thought he would come out on top in a fashion suit worth multi-millions. The fifty-four year-old fashion designer was axed in March 2011 by Dior after a highly publicized anti-Semitic attack in which he made bold statements such as “Jews should be gassed.” Galliano was filmed speaking these words to two Italian women in December 2010. Attributing this outburst to his addiction to drugs and alcohol, Galliano upon termination from Dior filed a law suit in Paris against the fashion house for “unfair dismissal.” He demanded Dior pay him loss of earnings totaling US$16 million. The final decision was released by a Paris employment court on Tuesday siding in favor of Dior and ordering Galliano pay Dior a symbolic €1. It is unknown at this time if Galliano will appeal the decision. Paris-based Maison Martin Margiela has hired Galliano in October as creative director.
