FASHION NEWS: Fashion designer and model, L’Wren Scott, found dead in NY apartment
The fashion industry is certainly in mourning upon receiving news that L’Wren Scott, fashion designer and girlfriend of Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger, was found dead in her Manhattan, NY apartment Monday morning. Although medical examiners are still determining the cause of death, New York police are investigating the former model’s death as a suicide upon finding Scott hanging from a scarf in her 11th Avenue apartment.
Scott’s death follows suit of two former fashion giants who also gave way to suicide – Alexander McQueen and Isabella Blow. McQueen, who suffered from depression, died in London in February 2010, while his close friend, Blow, a British fashion editor died in 2007.
Police reported that a female was found “unconscious and unresponsive” in an apartment building in Chelsea. Emergency medical personnel responded to a cardiac arrest call made by Scott’s assistant but upon arrival declared Scott dead.
Friends and family have certainly been stunned by Scott’s death but are left with no real explanation for her death? Some speculate embarrassment surrounding her failed fashion business as a possible reason, as Scott owed nearly $6million to creditors. The 6-foot, 3-inch tall 49-year-old refused to receive financial help from longtime boyfriend, Mick Jagger. Jagger at the time was on tour in Australia with The Rolling Stones and is reported to have appeared “ashen-faced” when he abruptly left a restaurant upon receiving the horrible news.
While funeral arrangements are pending, those in the industry are left wondering what will happen to her fashion line. Will those in possession of items from L’Wren Scott’s line find themselves the owners of valuable fashion commodities? Additionally, who will inherit Scott’s debt and what will they be able to do with it?
