Coco Rocha named Brand Director of Nomad Mgmt
Professional dancer turned fashion model, Coco Rocha just received a heavy stake in model agency, Nomad Mgmt. Acting as a longtime muse to designers such as Karl Lagerfeld, Zac Posen and legendary photographer, Steven Meisel – her radical posing and dynamic facial expressions has pivoted her career through the decades. Throughout her career, Rocha has stood up of the rights of her peers – joining the Model Alliance and helping to pass laws protecting child models to speaking out against the abuse of Photoshop. She assisted in mobilizing supporters and spoke directly with congressmen, helping them draft new legislation which was passed in 2013.
She will now be taking a management and ownership stake in Nomad Mgmt, alongside her husband James Conran. Serving as a brand director, she will be aiding Conran, Nomad founders Damon Rutland and Roman Young with the models within the agency; providing a more personal outlook for the global company.
“The market has changed since the Nineties,” Young tells WWD. “The market is flooded with a lot of models. It’s sadly become a volume business now, and agencies keep growing and growing and it’s about margins and profits. It’s less personal.”
Nomad who represents models such as Soo Joo Park, Sung Hee Kim, Hye Seung, Jino Chun, Matthew Hitt, Daniel McSweeney and Sung Jin Park will now have a female prospective leading their modeling careers.
“People who rooted for me and were impactful in my career knew everything about me. They knew my goals, my likes, my dislikes, what I wanted out of my career,” Rocha says. “That worked so well for me and that’s what our girls need.”
Acting as big sister within her new role, we’re sure Rocha won’t let the Nomad family down. WWD reports that outside of business management, Rocha will be offering personal fitness sessions with the models as well as fostering their contracts with the accountants. Rocha will also be scouting for the agency, especially through social media. “I’m always looking for girls who treat this as a business, not just a fun lifestyle,” she says. “A sneaky way of doing that is check their social media. How do they come across and present themselves?” Rocha surely knows how to appeal to the younger demographic and is ready to dive head first into her brand director role.
