BUSINESS OF FASHION: NORDSTROM LAUNCHES A MOBILE SHOP ON INSTAGRAM
Nordstrom is quenching our shopping addictions. The clever retailer is teaming up with analytics firm Curalate to make the selfie platform, Instagram, into a shoppable venture. The project they’re testing is called “Like2Buy,” which allows users to save products in a queue while they scroll through a visually stimulating and engaging app. By connecting your Instagram account with the Like2Buy website, every item you double-tap will automatically show up in the “My Likes” tab ready to launch into the Nordstrom checkout basket.
Social media director, Bryan Galipeau, states that Nordstrom connects with over 500,000 customers via Instagram making it the most viable choice for launching their in-app store. Not only does the Link2Buy app offer a “wish list” like feature, it also provides product reviews on the Nordstrom website before you buy. Have no fear; the mobile merchant is a secure page.
Curalate is working with over 450 brands (Gap and Neiman Marcus included) on this feature to link their social media engagement with increasing sales. So far, sales have gone up 26% since the Instagram x Link2Buy arrangement launched. Target follows suit shortly after and we project many more will too.
