BUSINESS NEWS: THE FACE OF AMAZON FASHION IS SUKI WATERHOUSE
The ongoing plan for Amazon to be taken seriously in the fashion world is showing results. Amazon CEO, Jeff Bezos stated that for Amazon to become a $200 billion company, it would have to sell food and clothing. The massive corporation has already opened programs like Amazon Pantry, Amazon Fresh and now Amazon Fashion. Amazon Fashion is announced to launch with Redken model Suki Waterhouse as the face of its Autumn/Winter ’15 campaign.
The massive online retailer’s attempt to move into the billion-dollar fashion industry includes building a massive photo studio in Shoreditch, London. The new studio spans 46,000 square feet with 22 photography bays, according to TechCrunch, making it the largest studio in Europe set to shoot over 500,000 images of clothing a year.
“Our aim is to make Amazon the best place to buy fashion online,” said Sergio Bucher, VP of Amazon Fashion EU, in a statement. “The opening of our new fashion studio, in the heart of one of the leading fashion capitals of the world, illustrates our ambitions.”
Rumors of Amazon trying to acquire Net-a-Porter were promptly shut down when Yoox took the reigns of the luxury-clothing online retailer. Amazon Fashion could be its last attempt at breaking into the industry.
Already a one-stop destination to almost all products from skin care to groceries, Amazon is pushing to take over the entire internet shopping experience. Now with drones, it’d be almost too good to be true to just type in one address for everything. Other competitors are in for trouble, like Wal-Mart, which is fighting to broaden its online presence.
