BUSINESS OF FASHION: ALESSANDRO MICHELE MAY WEAR THE CROWN AT GUCCI
Recently departed from Gucci, former Creative Director Frida Giannini has been officially replaced. The Italian luxury label will announce its appointment of Alessandro Michele on Wednesday, according to WWD. Michele, currently the house’s head accessories designer, took the bow at Gucci’s fall menswear show in Milan on Monday surrounded by the design team.
The collection was completely redesigned by Michele, down to the last detail and casting of models, in what appears to be a clean break from Giannini’s past decade at the helm of the brand.
“It’s as far from the former Gucci as possible. Very young, and a clean break with the past,” said a source to WWD.
Giannini was originally set to step down in February after showing the womenswear collection, but unexpectedly departed a month early.
Gucci spokespeople have yet to officially comment on the appointment.
